Court with Class
Through this program, high school classes observe oral arguments before the Wisconsin Supreme Court, tour the courtroom, and meet one of the justices. Court with Class provides high school teachers with the opportunity to include a Wisconsin Supreme Court visit as part of their classroom activities.
The program, developed by the State Bar's Law-related Education Committee in conjunction with the Wisconsin Supreme Court, brings students to the court's chambers to see it in session. Following the oral argument, students have the opportunity to meet with one of the justices to discuss general legal issues. Prior to the visit, teachers are provided with a case synopsis and background materials about the court. Many teachers expand this visit to include meeting with their legislators and touring the capital.
Constitution Day
Schools and federal agencies are required to hold educational programs on the Constitution on Constitution Day.
Why September 17? Well - because most Americans know that July 4th is our nation's birthday. Far fewer Americans
know that September 17th is the birthday of our government, the date in 1787 on which delegates to the Philadelphia
Convention completed and signed the U.S. Constitution.
Lawyers for Learning
This is a new program developed to encourage attorneys to volunteer in local elementary schools as a way to help Wisconsin children learn, to promote cooperation between the state and local bar associations, and to enhance the image of the legal profession.
Looking for presentation materials suitable for a high school audience? The State Bar's Diversity Outreach Committee offers several resources, including a presentation based on Brown v. Board of Education.
From the Courtroom to the Classroom
This annual judicial teaching institute gives teachers a better understanding of the courts to allow them to more effectively teach law-related education.
LRE Awards
Each year the State Bar of Wisconsin's Law-related Education Committee honors a teacher and an attorney who has made a significant contribution to the goal of furthering law-related education.
Teen Courts
Teen courts offer youth an opportunity to receive a meaningful sanction from a jury of their peers by providing youth an alternative to appearing in juvenile court, paying a fine and/or having a criminal record.
We the People - The Citizen and the Constitution
This curriculum-based program educates students about the constitution through participation in a mock congressional hearing.
Project Citizen
This middle school civic education program is designed to develop interest in public policy-making as well as the ability to participate competently and responsibly in state and local government.
Wisconsin High School Mock Trial Tournament
From September to February, mock trial teams prepare to argue a fictional case against other teams. Regional competitions occur in February, the state competition in March. The state winner advances to the national tournament.
