Do you think you may need a lawyer
or other help with a legal issue?
Unsure of where to turn?

Call the State Bar of Wisconsin's
Lawyer Referral and Information Service.

You'll talk to a legal assistant who's experienced in analyzing potential legal problems -- and in helping you locate the best source of help.

If you're sure you need a lawyer, you can use our online referral service to get the name of an attorney in your geographic area who accepts cases in the area of law you need. Otherwise, you can call LRIS at (800) 362-9082, or in the Dane County area call (608) 257-4666. The service is open 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday (all times CST).

Just one call puts you in touch with three types of services:

Lawyer Referral
Maybe you think you need an attorney, but want to talk to someone first. Call LRIS. When it's appropriate, we can refer you to a lawyer in your geographic area or elsewhere in Wisconsin who has indicated an interest in dealing with your legal situation. The first half-hour consultation will cost no more than $20.

Community Referrals
If you don't need a lawyer, LRIS will refer you to another legal service organization, government agency, or community resource that might be able to help with your legal concern.

Lawyer Hotline
Maybe all you need is general legal information or an answer to a simple legal question, such as how to file in small claims court. LRIS will make an appointment for a lawyer to call you back, free of charge, within a few days to briefly discuss your question with you.

Call: (800) 362-9082 or (Dane County) (608) 257-4666.
